VOTE FOR AN END TO TWO-PARTY POLITICS!
Ladies and Gentlemen, today is "Super Tuesday" and I didn't vote. Why? Because the last time I voted in prelimiaries, I noticed there is no choice for "none of the above." Instead, I talked to people around me and have found that I am not alone. The most disheartening thing I discovered is that a lot of people either don't realize there are other options or are afraid to go forth and actually pursue the alternatives.
More of us than we know realize the days of Republicans or Democrats doing anything for us and our country are long gone. If you don't realize that yet, consider the fact that the candidates running for those parties are expected to spend more money than ever before, over a billion dollars, trying to win the Presidency. This race is a mockery of a government that was at one time "of the people, by the people, for the people." Now whoever can afford to spend the most money and say things that sound good in ten-second spinnets are those who are elected.
It is time to give Independents a chance.
Now, if anything is ever going to change, we are going to have to change attitudes. Quit being concerned about "the lesser of two evils" and "wasting votes." If you believe in voting for Independents and try to justify not voting for them by citing "the lesser of two evils" and "wasted votes," it is time to erase that type of thinking from your mind. Voting for "the lesser of two evils" is only keeping the two-party system on life-support and that, in fact, is a waste of a vote. It is never a waste of a vote to what for what you believe in and if we can spread the word and convice all of our like-minded friends to do the same, the impact can be enormous.
Personally, I think the Libertarian Party has the best potential to get somewhere, but that is not the only option. If you are reading this web page, you already have access to all of the information you need to find a candidate that you can believe in and earn your respect. If you don't know where to start, I recommend the World's Smallest Politcal Quiz, found at http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html
Now go find a political party that means something and let's make the Presidency (and every other office) mean something again.
To summarize:
1. The two-party system of American politics is not doing anything for us.
2. Take the Political Quiz, research candidates and parties that you can fully support.
3. Do not support a Republican or Democrat as "the lesser of two evils." Both are equally evil and a vote for them without your full support is a waste of vote.
4. A vote for any candidate from any political party that you fully support and respect is not a wasted vote.
5. Regarding #3, you cannot fully support a Republican or Democratic candidate if you only get your information from TV or newspaper and have not compared them to candidates from other parties. Do your research.
6. If all of us who believe this follow these steps, we are well on our way to the end of the reign of the two-party system.
7. All of the above requires thinking for yourself. If you cannot or do not want to think for yourself, please do us all a favor and do not vote at all.
8. If you believe in this, tell your freinds, tell your enemies, tell anyone who will listen.
On a related note, please think for yourself in all matters. We are inundated with very few trying to feed everyone what to think, what movies to watch, which music to listen to and on and on. You don't have to take it. The Internet gives you the ability to find whatever you like more easily than ever before. Use it while you can.
